Bread Upma




Bread slices – 6
Mustard seeds (Rai) – 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds (Zeera) – 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves (Meethi neem) – 4-5
Green chilies, chopped – 3-4
Onions, chopped – ½ cup
Ginger paste – 1 /2 tsp
Tomato, finely chopped –  1 medium in size
Channa dal (Bengal gram) – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal – 1 /2tsp
Coriander leaves, chopped for garnishing
Turmeric -¼ tsp
Salt as per taste
Lemon juice
Water -1/2 cup
Cooking oil


  • Remove the sides of bread slices. Cut them in square pieces.
  • Heat oil and crackle mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
  • Fry curry leaves and chopped green chillies.
  • Fry channa and urad dal till it gets slightly brown.
  • Add roughly chopped onions and grated ginger. Saute onions till they are translucent.
  • Add finely chopped tomatoes and cook them well. Add turmeric and salt as per taste.
  • Add around 1/2 cup of water and give it a boil.
  • Add bread pieces and give it a good mix.
  • Add little lemon juice and garnish with chopped coriander.

Serves : 1-2
